    In 1981 I hiked a portion of the AT with a group of friends and I thanked whatever gods there might be for the good men who were hiking with us. We had heard some terrible things which had happen to other thru hikers of the AT such as murders and rapes because the shelters were built too close to the asphalt roads, women getting raped as they headed into town for their food drops, backpacking equipment stolen from the backpackers and with the threat of immediate physical harm to obtain the equipment and I can go on, like, forever, when it comes to the treatment of thru hikers of any long distance (low memory problems; computer) trail. Town folks have no love for backpackers as they are considered intruders and so allow their men to run loose, like, so many rabid dogs that this man in Roanoke could and can do as he pleases with any thru hiking female because she made the mistake of "thumbing" a ride on a popular route of the AT to pick up her food drop, and the Roanoke rapist did this three times. Let's get this straight, a woman can get raped in her own bedroom! Will you, WomenHikers of Yahoo, condone this action as you condone the action of the rape of a woman in Roanoke who was going about her business which was the AT? I'm speaking to the WomenHikers of Yahoo. Are you listening? No woman should have to face any kind of rape, under any condition or circumstances, in any area of her life. Yes, a woman has the right to travel alone and without male escort, has the right to hitch a ride into town whether its in a car, van, pick-up truck or any other type of transportation without any harm directed towards her, and still, yes, and still be treated with respect which is due her as a citizen of a civilized society. This rapist from Roanoke who has raped more than once should be prosecuted to the fullest extend of our California laws. Yes, I know where Roanoke is?
